Edwards: "Sarà una stagione eccitante"
Justin Edwards si presenta con un profilo di tutto rispetto, per un ragazzo uscito nel 2016 da Kansas State e con alle spalle una prima, eccellente, stagione europea in Ungheria con l’Alba Fehérvár, con cui ha vinto entrambe le competizioni nazionali e ha molto ben figurato nella FIBA Europe Cup. Un giocatore dal bagaglio tecnico vasto e dotato di un notevole atletismo, che promette di entusiasmare il PalaFantozzi. Ecco le sue prime parole da orlandino.
Benvenuto a Capo d’Orlando! Ci stiamo preparando per una stagione storica, cosa hai pensato quando sei stato contattato per venire a giocare da noi?
“Ero molto entusiasta perché conosco il valore del campionato italiano e il mio obiettivo è quello di giocare al più alto livello”.
“Una grande combinazione di talento e atletismo”: così ti ha presentato il nostro Direttore Sportivo Peppe Sindoni. Ti piace questa descrizione?
“Sì, sono d’accordo con lui, sono un giocatore atletico ma ho anche altre qualità”.
La tua prima stagione in Europa è stata di grande successo: cosa pensi ti abbiano dato l’esperienza della vittoria nel campionato e nella coppa di Ungheria?
“Vincere nella scorsa stagione mi ha dato molta fiducia e mi ha aiutato a dimostrare che il duro lavoro paga”.
Sei stato pre-selezionato nella Nazionale canadese che disputerà il torneo FIBA Americup: come vivi questa opportunità?
“Mi sento onorato a essere stato scelto per rappresentare il mio paese, il Canada ha molti grandi giocatori e sono molto felice di essere stato scelto”.
Il Canada sta crescendo molto a livello internazionale, come dimostra anche la recente vittoria nel Mondiale Under 19. Cosa puoi dirci della crescita del basket nella tua nazione?
“Stiamo migliorando velocemente nel basket, ci sono tanti giocatori che sono diventati professionisti e che giocano nella NCAA, sono molto fiero di far parte di una generazione che sta facendo crescere il basket in Canada”.
Cosa vuoi dire ai tuoi nuovi tifosi?
“Voglio ringraziarli per il loro benvenuto e non vedo l’ora di essere in Italia per mettermi al lavoro. Sarà una stagione eccitante, sia per la squadra che per i tifosi”.

Justin Edwards has proved himself at NCAA level (he completed his college experience in 2016 with Kansas State) and he won both domestic competitions in his very first European season in Hungary with Alba Fehérvár, playing very well in the FIBA Europe Cup too. Welcome to Capo d’Orlando! Our team is preparing to a historic season, what were your thoughts when you have been contacted to join us?
“When I was contacted I was very excited because I know how strong the Italian league is and my goal is to play at the highest level of competition”.
“A great combination of athleticism and technical skills”: this is what our Sports Director Peppe Sindoni said about you. Do you like this description?
“Yes I would agree with Peppe. I’m a very athletic player and I do have other skills that I’m very well at”.
Your first season has been very successful: what does the winning experience in the Hungarian domestic cup and league gave to you?
“Winning in my first season it has given me a lot of confidence and it helped to prove to me that hard work pays off”.
You’ve been pre-selected to your National Team to play the FIBA Americup: how do you feel to get a chance to represent your country?
“I feel honored to be picked by my National Team to represent my country, Canada has a lot of great basketball players and I’m just happy I was chosen out of these players”.
Canada is a raising force in the International Basketball, as they also proved winning the U19 World Cup this summer. What can you say about the growth of the game in your country?
“We are growing quickly in terms of basketball, there are many players that went playing pro and in the NCAA, so I’m proud to say I’m part of a generation of growing basketball in Canada”.
What would you say to your new fans?
“I just want to say thank you for welcoming me and I can’t wait to get to Italy and get to work! This is going to be a very exciting season for the team and the fans!”.
